Are you the adventurous type? If so Tenby is the place to visit next year as the diary is packed full of adventurous activities throughout the year. Ranging from a 100-mile bicycle challenge from Cardiff to Tenby to the more sedate but equally challenging Caldey Swim to the ultimate test of physical endurance that is Ironman. If like me you’re no longer up for any of these you can always sit back in the warm sunshine with a drink or two and watch and cheer on the competitors. I find that exhausting enough!
If sporting activities aren’t your scene don’t worry Tenby can still offer you an adventure or two! Did you know that author Roald Dahl experienced Tenby every year for several years during his childhood holidays. Were the seeds for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory sown on nearby Caldey Island I wonder? The island still possesses a chocolate factory – an essential adventure for all chocoholics.
Another famous author Beatrix Potter was inspired to create one of her characters in Tenby. Did you know that Peter Rabbit was born in Tenby just behind number 2 the Croft! The local Civic Society has placed a blue plaque on the building that Beatrix stayed in during her visit. The society has also produced a walking trail that takes you around the town – an adventure in itself. Some of the characters you will discover during the trail include Augustus John the artist, Kenneth Griffith the filmmaker and Dylan Thomas the poet.
If music and arts are your thing you will not be disappointed in 2016. The Tenby Blues Festival and The Tenby Arts Festival can always be relied upon to produce an adventurous line up of acts and events. Regular Jazz events are held at a well-known Tenby hotel throughout the year. Even Jools Holland and his rhythm and blues band are visiting Pembrokeshire next year. What an adventure that will be!
We are all planning to have an adventure in 2016 so why don’t you come on down and join us!
